Since the Madison chapter was formed, we – including you, our members and attendees – have made an impact in the lives of many people who want to live better with hearing loss. We would like to expand our reach and have created new board positions to help accomplish our goals.

HLAA-Madison will hold elections for leadership positions on the Board in September and 2-year terms will begin in October. Put your unique skills to work or learn as you go. Time commitments vary but no one carries a heavy load, and board members are free to create a committee to work with them.

The Board will meet monthly on dates predetermined at the annual June Board Meeting.  Being on the Board includes the commitment to attend in person or via telecommunication.  Time commitments vary, but no one carries a heavy load and board members are free to create a committee to work with them.

We encourage you to apply for one of the following positions:


Provide leadership and represent HLAA to the members of the chapter and to the public. He or she will conduct the business meetings of the Chapter and board of directors and respond to requests and suggestions about the Chapter in a timely manner and in writing, if requested. If unable to perform these duties temporarily, the Vice-President may assume the role.

Vice-President/Program Chair:

Assist the president and assume the president’s duties in case that officer is absent or ill. Her or his main responsibility is as the chair of the Program Committee responsible for overseeing the planning of monthly presentations and events.


Record both chapter and board meeting proceedings in such a manner that there can be no question of what action has been taken.


Maintain accurate and complete financial records, including budget projection, receipt of funds, approval of expenditures, and the creation of periodic financial statements.

Committee Chairs and Committee Members:

Committee chairs are appointed by the Executive Committee; they are not elected positions. These roles are crucial to the chapter’s success and we hope you consider joining us.  Committee Members are usually appointed by the Committee Chairs.  If you have either interest, willingness, or skills, please let us know.

Committee Chair: Fundraising:

Arrange events, parties, raffles, game tournaments, etc. to raise funds for chapter CART expenses, scholarships to the annual National Convention, and outreach. A great opportunity to use your imagination!

Committee Chair: Hospitality & Meeting Set up/Take down:

Meet and greet people. Post outdoor signs 15 minutes prior to meetings; retrieve after meetings. Arrange tables so we have one each for check-in, resource materials, and snacks. Organize snack table and set out plates, napkins, etc. Set out resource materials. Ready microphones. Return these items to their places at end of meeting.

Assist Committee Chairs in improving our chapter outreach and making a positive impact on the hard of hearing community in Madison and beyond. Opportunities in:
